Friends in Nepal is a new organization established in March 2001. It was created because we feel that many volunteer organizations in Nepal are not giving optimum service to their volunteers and to the placements in which they are working. We aim to provide the best experience for both parties involved to ensure a productive and worthy placement.
Friends in Nepal is run by a local Nepali and an ex-volunteer from Britain who has experienced placements and their lack of organization. Our Nepali organizer has worked in the field of social work for 2 years and in the field of education for 13 years. This experience base enables us to create the best and most deserving placements for our volunteers.
One of the main problems we have encountered working with other placement organizations is a lack of communication between volunteers, their hosts, and the organization. Communication about all aspects of the placement expenses is vital to organizations and especially to those that rely on human beings rather than computers and fax machines. Therefore, one of our main objectives is ensuring that we are all clear of our own agendas before you commence your placement.
The reason we decided to call our organization "Friends in Nepal" is because we can guarantee that you will not leave Nepal without having made some friends for life. Nepali people are some of the most honest, friendliest, genuine people in the world. Their hospitality is unique--making your adjustment to a very different way of life much easier.
