We are looking for people who wish to
genuinely help deprived children and adults in Nepal.
Our main expectations from you are that you will be open minded,
flexible, honest and that your aim to help the community will be
sincere. The placements you will be placed in will undoubtedly not match
your expectations! Your placement and accommodation will, 9 out of 10
times, be very basic. Local squat toilets, cold water for washing,
electricity cuts and dal bhat for 90% of your meals. This may sound
daunting but you will find that once you are adjusted to expecting
slightly less from your everyday life, microwaves, TV's and
toasters don't seem vital!
The English spoken at your placement will range from basic to decent
conversational level, depending on how far from Kathmandu you are
placed. You will be given a short course in Nepali during your first
orientation week in Kathmandu.
We will expect both you and your placement manager to be totally open
and honest with us. If either of you are not happy with the situation we
would first hope you would discuss it yourselves or if this is not
possible, bring it to our attention.
Normally you could expect to work between 15-20 hours per week. If you
wish to do more than this then that is of course acceptable. There are
often extra curricular activities organised by schools etc. and in any
other placements, other work can always be found!
Due to Nepali culture it is appropriate to modest attire i.e. Kurta
Sulwa or long skirt or trousers. Shirt and trousers men (skimpy
clothing i.e. shoe string tops and low waisted clothing and shorts is
unacceptable)
Your safety and well-being is important to us and any changes we make
will be purely for your well being and any concern please do not
hesitate to contact us.
There are local agents who will look after you and any concerns you may
have.
